TIMES MALANG, MALANG – The English Language Study Program at the State Polytechnic of Malang (Polinema) once again hosted the International Conference on Applied Linguistics and Communication (ICALCom) 2025. The event took place on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the Auditorium on the 8th floor of the Civil Engineering Building, Polinema.
Now in its third year, ICALCom 2025 carries the theme “From the Classroom to the World: English, Employability, and Intercultural Readiness.” The conference was held in collaboration with partners from eight countries and featured four distinguished speakers: Jonathan Brindle (Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France), Eka Listianing Rahayu (Washington State University), Af’idatul Husniyah (State Polytechnic of Malang), and Claudia Rosenhan (The University of Edinburgh).
The participation of representatives from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, the United Kingdom, Sri Lanka, Spain, and the United States highlights Polinema’s strong commitment to building a global academic network, particularly in the fields of applied linguistics and communication.
ICALCom targets professionals and researchers in language studies—including teachers, lecturers, and students—who wish to share their research findings. It aims to broaden participants’ perspectives on the latest trends in English language teaching and supporting technologies.
Nadia Hanayeen, Chief Executive of ICALCom 2025, said the conference serves as a platform for sharing knowledge and experiences in English language teaching, particularly in the vocational education sector.
“Our goal is to make ICALCom 2025 a forum where lecturers, teachers, students, and researchers can exchange ideas and discuss innovations in English teaching for vocational higher education,” she explained.
Siti Rohani, Ph.D., Head of the English Language Study Program at Polinema, expressed hope that ICALCom 2025 would continue to grow as a truly international event.
“This conference gives students valuable exposure to academic activities at the international level. They also gain new insights from diverse perspectives presented by speakers from various countries,” she said.
Looking ahead, ICALCom aims to increase the number of international participants and expand collaboration with countries that have not yet joined. The organizers also encourage students to take part as presenters, ensuring the event continues to serve as an inclusive forum for academics at all levels. (*)
