TIMES MALANG, MALANG – Diving community Seho Dive in Taliabu Island, North Maluku, encourages the society to protect the marine wealth in Taliabu Island.
Recently, Seho Dive created a dialog about “Water Conservation Backup Plan in Taliabu Island”. In this dialog, Seho Dive presented Marine and Fisheries Department of Taliabu (DKP), Directorate of Water and Air Police and Regional Police of North Maluku, Tourism Department, environmental activists, and Pancasila Youth.
Through this dialog, Seho Dive explained the problems and any potentials existing in the ocean of Taliabu Island. This community emphasizes that the marine wealth and beauty of Taliabu Island should be protected and developed.
“From underwater observation, Seho Dive has found the damage on the coral reefs caused by the illegal method of catching fish, which is also known as blast fishing,” said Husen Tualeka to TIMES Indonesia on Sunday (4/4/2021).
In addition to that, Seho Dive also observes any illegal activities on the ocean, such as illegal capture that involves protected endangered species, such as Leatherback Sea Turtles, stingrays, and sharks.
Seho Dive expected that there will be a reconstruction in form of coral transplantation. This measure should be initiated to fix the potential of underwater wealth of Taliabu. Afterwards, this potential will be transformed into a valuable tourist attraction. (*)
